Located near Zion National Park and a whole host of other scenic and historic attractions, a one-night stay at Comfort Inn St. George will not be long enough to see everything Utah’s Dixie has to offer. More than a week is necessary to sufficiently explore southern Utah’s spectacular landscape.
Zion is unquestionably the area’s most recognizable tourist destination. From the Virgin River Narrows to Kolob Arch, the park boasts scenery found nowhere else in the world. Adventurers flock to Zion to experience The Narrows, a portion of the Virgin River where hikers can almost touch both sides of the canyon walls with outstretched arms. Reached by a rugged 7-mile trail, Kolob Arch is one of the world’s largest natural spans. For the less adventurous, Zion Canyon, the park’s most-visited area, is chock full of short, leisurely hikes that provide stunning views of the park’s giant rock monoliths, including the Court of the Patriarchs, The Great White Throne and the Watchman. Only 45 minutes away from this one-of-a-kind natural spectacle, Comfort Inn St. George makes a great lodging base camp where you can unwind after a full day on the trail.
A visit to southern Utah will not disappoint history buffs. For starters, St. George is home to two of the state’s most magnificent remaining pioneer-era buildings, the St. George Tabernacle and the St. George Temple. While visitors may not enter the temple, they can tour its grounds and stop in at its visitor center to learn more about its amazing history. Other restored pioneer structures worth visiting include the Brigham Young Winter Home and the Jacob Hamblin Home, the best surviving example of early pioneer architecture in Utah’s Dixie. Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offer daily tours of these two former residences, recounting interesting historical tidbits in the process. For aficionados of prehistory, the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm is only 10 minutes from Comfort Inn. Here, visitors can view over 1,000 petrified dinosaur tracks and fossilized dinosaur remains. Farther away, visitors can check out a few of the area’s ghost towns, including Silver Reef near Leeds and Grafton, only four miles from Rockville. Allow Comfort Inn the opportunity to supply your lodging when you visit these historical attractions, most of which are less than 20 minutes from our hotel.
